About Sotoo Designs
Sotoo Designs is a fine jewelry company founded by Yukiko Sotoo Ueda (pronounced you-key-koe sew-toe oo-eh-dah), originally from Japan and a resident of the United States since 1996. Sotoo Designs body accessories are original pieces hand-made by Yukiko in Los Angeles, California. The Sotoo Designs logo is modeled after the Sotoo family crest, a stylized flower design that originated in southern Japan. The sterling silver pieces are hand-carved out of wax molds and cast by a company in Hermosa Beach using the lost wax process. Some of the silver is intentionally darkened with oxidization to increase the beauty and weathered look of the creation. Yukiko utilizes the simple and lasting appeal of sterling silver, leather from local vendors, and gems and precious stones from both south Asia and the southwestern United States. Ruby, saphire and peridot are often used, as are precious stones like turquoise, moonstone and opal. The beads she uses are both imported and from local suppliers. Yukiko Sotoo-Ueda often draws upon abstracted flower and geometric designs for her wearable artwork; pop culture references (like personalized i.d. tags) also make a whimsical appearance. Custom pieces are available. For custom or wholesale orders, contact Yukiko for rates. |
